State media company China Media Group, the Esports World Cup Foundation and tournament organizer VSPO have signed a strategic partnership. This deal is to jointly organize and participate in future esports. This happened in Beijing where China Media Group unveiled the National Institute for Esports Development.
What is VSPO?
VSPO is an esports operator company, and is known to have 14 office locations and organize competitions across a good number of titles. They include Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile. They have been on everything esports including partnering with the Olympic Sports Week in Singapore and later in the year managed the esports tournaments of the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China,
What Does This Deal Seek To Do?
The institute will help boost China’s layout of the esports industry, enhance cooperation within the industry circle and seek new methods of promoting culture. This is not the first time VSPO and the Esports World Cup Foundation have worked together. These two organizations have collaborated on Riyadh's Esports World Cup and are both supported by Saudi Arabian investment groups. While VSPO is backed by Savvy Media Group ($265M), the EWC Foundation is backed by the Saudi Arabia government.
The announcement officially occurred the same day as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) unveiled their collaboration with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia to host the inaugural edition of the Olympic Esports Games 2025 in Saudi Arabia.
With an extensive prize pool of $60M, the Esports World Cup will feature 22 tournaments for a maximum of two months; a chance to win big as a gamer and also show your skills on the playing field. The Saudi Arabian government, despite the name they are making for themselves with this event, is still being criticized to pay close attention to their human rights’ record.
