The sustenance of an industry is dependent on the fields that help to keep its continuity. Esports as a subsection of the gaming industry is one that requires similar: the existence and management of departments with skilled personnel to take on roles to maintain esports ventures.

- Coaches: The role of a coach is to mentor players, prepare game strategies, analyze opposing teams and is involved in the selection and scouting of new talent.
- Referees: The role of a referee is to ensure matches are fairly conducted, following games’ rules and regulations and wield the power to penalize player misconduct.
- Marketers: A marketer outlines and executes strategies to promote teams, individual players, esports events and gaming products. They also handle public relations and sponsorship deals.
- Data Analysts: A data analyst collates large amounts of data to help inform strategic decisions, analyzing player performance metrics, scrutinizing audience data or identifying market trends.
Shoutcasters: A shoutcaster is an individual who gives commentary on esports matches, providing a play-by-play or analytical view from either behind a desk or on stage at the venue. Shoutcasting, or casting means to inform the audience about what’s happening while being entertaining.
Scouts: Scouts keep a close eye on the esports scene by attending tournaments and watching live streams to identify emerging talent. Scouts must be able to analyze players’ performances, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and assess their potential for development. They must also keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the game, including new strategies and techniques, to ensure they can spot the best players.
- Esports Team Managers: Managers take care of teams and organizations function smoothly, managing schedules and logistics, overseeing player contracts, collaborating with sponsors and resolving any internal issues.
- Social media managers: Brand recognition for an esports team or organization can be handled by social media managers. They handle their social media platforms, managing fan interactions and help to build online communities around their brands.
- Journalists: A journalist works with esports news outlets, gaming websites or mainstream media organizations to update the platforms and fans with the latest news, interviews, match results and industry trends.
- Production Crew: Personnel that make up the production crew handle the broadcasting of esports events – from video production to sound engineering, lighting and more. For spectators to have a coherent viewing experience, whether in-person and/or online the production crew is responsible for all that.
- Agents: Agents are the representatives for professional players. They engage in the business negotiations, secure contracts for teams, and negotiate salaries and facilitate opportunities for sponsorships.
What Qualifications Should One Have When Considering An Esports Job?
The following qualifications can be useful when considering an esports job:
- Education: Having a degree in a relevant field can be helpful to securing an esports job. Degrees in business administration, public relations, media and communication, health and rehabilitation, entrepreneurship, sports management, programming among other related programs to get an esports job.
- Transferable skills: Skills in the areas of business and media such as journalism, broadcasting, etc. can be helpful in getting recruited in an esports organization.
- Versatile skill set: Having skills in marketing, advertising, graphic design, video production can be impressive to companies.
- A strong portfolio: All of the skills acquired and experiences gathered from previous jobs can help candidates get recruited in esports ventures.
