In talking with a recent guest on the Gamers Change Lives Podcast (the episode will be out soon) he related how his organization works to connect brands with Gen Z. I was curious about the numbers showing the difference in gaming habits by generation and found this information on New Zoo. The link to the report is below.
The report is from last year (2021), but it is global in scope and not just reporting on the US.
Two things that stood out to me were:
- The huge number of gamers in Gen Z from Gen X and Baby Boomers. While not a surprise, the fact that members of Gen Z are twice as likely to be playing video games than Baby Boomers is tremendous. And even when compared to Gen X, it is 35% higher. Big differences.
- The variation in time spent on playing was even more pronounced, almost 3X compared to Baby Boomers and 66% more than Gen X.
What does this mean for brands? Their marketing plans for Gen Z have to be radically different than for Gen X compared to other generations. Fortunately, gaming has this younger demographic to offer.
The trick is to figure out how to tap into it. Our guest has some great programs already in place to do just that. Stay tuned.
